The Yale Science Building is a new seven-level structure which includes a rooftop greenhouse, aquatics & BSL-3 insect labs, state-of-the-art imaging technology, quantitative biology center, innovative physics labs, and a 500-seat lecture hall. The structure is home to labs, classrooms, and research support spaces dedicated to understanding the evolution of plants, disease vectors of insects, and atomic, molecular, and optical physics. A primary goal of the project was to eliminate disciplinary silos and encourage collaboration across specialized scientific platforms. Project planning occurred over a 21 month timeline, from design concepts through GMP, including multiple design iterations, environmental impact studies and geometric revisions. Design Assist was utilized to improve the accuracy and constructability of the curtainwall design documents. Dimeo also engaged key subcontractors early to work with the design team to advance modular systems features including prefabricated racking for MEP systems distribution. The Yale Science Building is both a technical and artistic milestone for the university and will set the stage for cutting edge scientific advances far into the future.
