The SCL project consisted of renovations/addition to a +/-90,000 sf facility. Scope included demolition and new construction of 75,000 sf of the building inclusive of new roof structure to enclose a lab and teaching spaces. The project provides for new Chemistry and Biology laboratories as well as Office, Lecturer and support. The project included over 220 fume hoods. The project required maintaining ongoing circulation to adjacent buildings and recreate space around the perimeter of the new construction. The new construction completed a total replacement of all structures from foundation throguh roof while maintaining historic buildings at the perimeter. Lean planning and building methods plus BIM were used for spatial coordination of MEP/FP systems to improve installation and reduce rework. Dimeo also leveraged BIM to aid in the evaluation and redesign of structure to support concrete lined ductwork, calculating point loads at critical points.
